My daughter and I found the magical secret for making quick cupcakes that will travel without losing their frosting! After baking them in the sandwich maker, we used a pastry bag and piped the icing inside... delicious filled cupcakes!

This is the owl I made for an owl postcard swap on swapbot! I used Tattered Angels Graceful Journey clear stamp set and colored w/ copic and spica markers. (The glitter from the spica didn't photograph well). He has huge glittery yellow eyes! I am really pleased with how this one turned out!

Here are the cards for my upcoming class at Scrapper's Edge! I am really excited about the McGill Paper Blossom Punches and Paper Shaping Tools. I made the lily and starflower on the cards, and they are surprisingly easy to make! (I made the cards too, lol). So, if you are in the Eureka area on July 19th you should try to make it to my class! Learn how to mold paper to create 3D realistic flowers in just a few easy steps: punch, shape & assemble. Most flowers can be completed in under 20 minutes once you understand the basics. In this class, we will make 2 cards and adorn them with gorgeous hand-molded 3D Lily and Star flowers. I worked on this a couple of saturdays ago at the national scrapbook day crop. I have been toying w/ the drawing since last September, and finally decided to get it out again. I am pleased with the way the background turned out....We'll see how the painting goes!

I got this very nifty book for Christmas called Steampunkery....well here is the result of my first attempt at making a steam-punk chameleon fairy lizard guy. I like it! This little guy is a birthday gift for a friend. Polymer clay, gears, glazes, and mica powder, topped with a cool propeller hat.

This is a vampire themed chipboard mini book I taught at Scrappers Edge last night. We used the bind-it-all to assemble the book and Tim Holtz On the Edge dies to create the shaped edges. The drippy blood is drips of Glimmer Glam paint. I printed vampire quotes onto red vellum and embellished with velvet paper swirl punches, velvet photo corners, lace and lots of bling! It was a fiendishly good time! (The scary little kids are mine, dressed up for halloween 2 years ago).

1st phase of my suzi petite doll project...got my drawing on a painted and collaged backboard. The summer has flown by so quickly, the kids just started back to school and I have a tiny bit of free time on my hands. I enrolled in this class at the end of May, and have had no real time to work on any of it since the kids got out of school in early June. I took my sketchbook w/ me and made several drawings while traveling, (and boy did we do some traveling this summer), there was just never enough time to get to the painting portion of class. I realized as the kids went back to school this class only has one more week of open participation left, so I thought I'd better get to work and get something done! So far so good. :)

This ATC was made for our Open House Triptych swap at North Coast Art Swaps. This one probably took the most time, I think it was because I couldn't really decide what I wanted to do. The background paper started out as some leftover serendipity paper I had made for a swap about a year ago. Most of the stamped images are from Stampington Company, some are also from Inkadinkado. I think I found the lady image in the free collage images at art-e-zine. I have uploaded the triptych templates that we used to North Coast Art Swaps, or you can download the PDF here.

I've been making things lately. After an artistic slump I am finally feeling Creative again! Yay! This little guy is the first ATC I made for Jennifer (the winner of the Art Lottery at North Coast art swaps). I used a sand filled texture paste for the base of the background, then sprayed with glimmer mist, then inked, and finally dripped a combination of thinned teal colored paints and let them run down. The plastic heart is from Heidi Swap, and inked with a wordy stamp I had laying around. The little cutie boy is from Lisa's Altered Art Collage sheets. I made most of this card sometime ago. It is the second card I am sending Jennifer! The background was made by inking the inside of a plastic folder, a few drips from 2 - 3 different colors, then squishing a glossy sheet of paper between the inked up folder. I will try to make a tutorial to explain that better. (I just have to find some time first...lol). It was then stamped w/ Staz-on ink in black, I think I used a Hero Arts stamp, but I could be wrong. And I really don't want to dig through my cache of rubber stamps right now to find out. :) I stamped over the geisha image with postal themed stamps, then mounted the image to some fancy hand screened, yummy, fiber-y paper. Tah-da!

I have not been paying much attention to my blog, well lets see.....for the last 3 months or so. All of the links are broken, so I will begin to fix that soon, maybe this weekend. We'll see how it goes! I have a backlog of projects to post and just haven't gotten around to it. (another this weekend project?) LOL

Boo! Book and the deep cut blade

Here is the CUT file for the BOO! Book. I used George and Paper Doll Dress Up cartridges. It is bound using the Bind-it-All.
I made this project using the Cricut deep cut blade and housing. Wow! What a difference it makes. I was able to cut through really heavy chipboard, I think it was about 1/8 " thick. I had tried to cut through this material using the original blade housing and lots of multi-cutting, but with no success.

The deep cut did make it through , but it took some learning. The blade housing has 11 depth settings rather than the usual 6. The numbers still say 1 - 6, but you can set it half way between the numbers also. Which means I had to figure out new pressure/blade depth settings. (I feel like I just finally got a handle on the old settings, LOL) I wish I could say it just sliced through like butter on the first try, but it didn't. My first cut came out terrible, I set the pressure at maximum and the blade depth at 6, and the machine stuttered, and made horrible sounds and ugly gashes in the chipboard. So, I decided to try again with all the settings set a little lower. I made my first cut on 4.5 depth and the pressure at high. It cut, but not all the way through. So it is back to multi cutting. I don't usually turn the multicut feature on in the software or my machine, because I forget to turn it off and end up multicutting an innocent piece of thin paper. I usually just press load mat and load last if I am only using my cricut machine, or I just press the cut button again on the software. (no need to press the load mat button when using the software, because it is programed to a specific start point). If you press unload mat do not try to multicut. The cuts won't line up correctly. Only press the load mat button.

I found a couple of different cutting patterns made it through. We'll call them Deep Cut recipes.

One other thing to watch for when multicutting is stray bits of paper getting caught in the blade housing and blocking the tip of the blade.

Cricut Halloween Luminary

This is the Halloween project I taught at this months Pixie Stick Club. Pixie Stick Club is the kid's class at our local scrapbook store (Scrapper's Edge).

Ingredients:
Cricut machine
George, Paper Doll Dress Up cartridges
Bazzill heavy black cardstock
Mrs. Grossman's lavender vellum
Making Memories glitter Halloween stickers
Making Memories foam stamps
white and glow in the dark acrylic paint
cob webs
plastic spider rings
electric votive candle (don't use a real candle)

The luminary base was cut from heavy cardstock using my Cricut machine and the Design Studio Software. The window section is backed by a 4.5 x 4.5 square of vellum. Use a 2-way glue pen on the back of the castle and bat to adhere them to the vellum, and plain scotch tape to attach the outer edge of the vellum to the inside of the luminary. Embellish with paint and stickers. When the paint is dry roll the luminary into a cylinder to shape it, I used a rolling pin. Tape the edges together on the inside of the back, top with cob webs and plastic spiders. I cut a slit in the rings and looped them through the pickets on top. Put an electric votive candle or glow stick inside and oooooh! Creepy Halloween fun!

Faux Prima Flowers

I am using my Cricut machine to make Prima style flowers using cone shaped coffee filters and coloring them w/ various inks. They cut very flat, and then I add dimension by scoring and embossing them by hand. A good way to get just the right color flower for a project.

Gathering all of my eggs in one basket

I am going to attempt to gather all of my past projects and art tid-bits to post on this blog. That means lots of sorting and seeking. I am now blogging via laptop, and most of my older pics are hiding out on the family desktop. Keep your fingers crossed, and we'll see how long it takes me! LOL

Valentine Candy pockets

These are the valentines my kids and I are working on for their friends at school. I used the Cricut to cut the tags and envelopes (Tags, bags, boxes cartridge). Then we embossed the tags with Cuttlebug embossing folders, colored the image with pencils and Twinklette markers, and stamped them with hearts and cute sayings. Lastly I helped staple the candy and a sheer ribbon to the top.

Cricut "love note" post it holder

Here are the directions for the Love note post it holder I made with my Cricut. I taught a small class at Scrappers Edge featuring this project!

Ingredients :

Cricut or Expression Machine

Fabulous Finds cartridge

Jasmine Cartridge

Cricut Tools spatula

Patterned cardstock (Cosmo Cricket "love notes" )

Bazzil cardstock

Ink Jet Transparency sheet

Ribbon

Alcohol Inks

(Wild plum, Stream, Copper mixative)

Chalk Ink Cat Eyes

(Wisteria, Chestnut Roan, Warm Red)

PVA glue

Glossy Accents glue

Scissors

Ruler

Directions :

The first cartridge you need is Fabulous Finds. You will need to set your machine to cut at 2 ¼ inch with the pressure at high, and the blade depth set at 5 or 6 depending on the thickness of the cardstock. Set your cutting speed at medium. The design is called , it is on the bottom row and you will need to use the shift key to select it. Load your printed cardstock on the mat and begin cutting! (Use the chalk ink to distress the edges).

Next you need to cut out the shadow. You will need to change the pressure setting to max and the blade depth to 6 because we are going to be using Bazzil cardstock. The rest of the settings will be the same. Press the shadow button on the right hand side of your keypad, then press the shift key, then select . Load the Bazzil paper and cut the shadow!

Now its time to cut the transparency sheet. This can be tricky. I have found that the computer printable transparencies are more flexible and less brittle so they cut better. What has worked best for me is setting the machine at low speed, high pressure with the blade depth set at 6. Using a new sticky mat will also help! Change the size dial to 1 ¾ inch. Press the insert button (its above the shadow key) and press the shift button, then select . We are cutting the insert to the heart paper clip for the front of the note holder. Load the transparency and press cut. Unload the mat and power off your machine after this cut. Change the cartridge to Jasmine and then turn the machine back on. Reload the the mat with the transparency. Keep all of the same settings and cut out the “I love you” phrase. Use the love part of the phrase for the front of the note holder. (Use the alcohol ink to color the transparent cut outs).

Thread the ribbon behind the heart on the printed cardstock cut out, then glue the printed cardstock to the Bazzil cardstock shadow using PVA.

Score the note holder (when the glue is dry) and fold into shape. (The Cricut cuts tiny notches into the note cover to mark where the scoring should go).

Glue the transparent heart onto the top heart shaped flap, and the transparent “love” off to the side so they are next to each other when the note holder is closed. Glue in a half stack of mini post-it notes, tie the ribbon and your done!!
